A reading couch for two, based on a French couch for three from the last quarter of the 19th century. Usually, the action of reading is an intimate and lonely action. In this piece it is being pretend to create a passive and inert reading mate who is inevitably linked to the seat where it is enjoyed the book.
The place stolen to the couch is occupied by this passive reader in an almost human shape and with a submissive and servile vocation. At the bottom it is shown these cult objects, as books or prints in the shape of display case
In the middle, in a horizontal shape with a leaning back (inspired by the central control panel of the American sports cars of the middle of the 20th century), it pretends to be use as a table in order to write down, to have a coffee, to leave the glasses…
At the top, with a shape of a head, it wants to keep information, in the same way that our brain storages the content of the books. Its head it is used to keep the book that is probably being read.
This area, with a shape of cage, it is inspired by the cages of Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966). Not only the cages were the places where Giacometti used to keep his stylish sculptures, but also they were the cages where people, during the Middle Ages were imprisoned as a result of the atmosphere of ignorance when people used to fight against the wisdom. This cage has a frontal opening in order to leave books inside.
It is the idea of Salvador Dali (1904-1989) of modelling objects, animals and people according his taste and his own idea of the world and trying to impress the audience’s mind that contemplates his art work. An eclectic piece full of contrasts between the softness of its curves and the straight strength of the central part, the coldness of the iron in the cage shape and the warmth of the skin and the velvet.
